Fire Chief Craig A. Haigh
The Officers and Firefighters of Hanover Park Fire Department continually strive to embody the mission and values of our organization. Quality compassionate service provided at times of great need to our residents and visitors is a mainstay of our department.

In addition to all current services and programs, the department created the Inspectional Services Division and the non-emergency ambulance transport program this year. Both programs streamline efficiency and enhance service capabilities.

The Village contracted Fitch and Associates to do a comprehensive review of the Department’s emergency medical services program. Working with village and department leadership, Fitch recommended changes to our ambulance billing ordinance and created a comprehensive business plan for the development of the non-emergency ambulance transport program. These implemented changes have significantly enhanced revenue and reduced the department’s reliance on property tax

Assisted by the Human Resource Department a wage reopener settlement with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3452 was reached. A 2-year promotional eligibility list for battalion chief was certified and testing was conducted to create eligibility lists for new full and part-time firefighters. Several members took advantage of the educational tuition reimbursement program created in 2009. Training classes continued for both company officer and chief officer levels as part of the department’s succession planning process.

Village-wide, all automatic cardiac defibrillators were replaced. Two of the serviceable replaced units were donated to the Hanover Park Hurricanes. The remaining units were donated to One Mission Society for use in their medical clinics in Haiti. The Foreign Fire Tax Board generously purchased SCBA voice amplifiers for all personnel and paid to install quick release SCBA brackets on all frontline engines. The department received operational grants designated for use by Fire Corps from the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals and Sam’s Club. The department also sold a surplus engine to the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute under an agreement that provides future tuition for Hanover Park employees.

Working with the Village Board, the Village Manager and all Village Departments, I led the process to develop the Village’s new strategic plan. This is the first comprehensive strategic plan completed by the Village in over twenty years and is expected to be finished and adopted by the Board in early 2011.

Personally, I am incredibly blessed to lead a wonderful staff dedicated to service. Several members received commendations and/or letters of recognition for outstanding performance. A special recognition was given to Firefighter/EMT John Stallings for completion of his 3rd tour of duty in the United States Air Force as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Battalion Chief Ames was again recognized for her medical mission work to the country of Belize.

I could not be more proud of my team and the work they do. I extend my personal thanks to Village President Rod Craig and the Village Board, Village Manager Ron Moser, Village Staff, Assistant Chief Kenneth D. Zaccard, Battalion Chiefs Ames, Hish and Pikora, Chaplain Dominowski, and the Company Officers , Firefighters and Fire Corps members of the Hanover Park Fire Department, including my administrative assistant Robin Dubiel and Inspector Frank Bertolami, for their dedication and commitment to promoting the mission and values of our great organization.
